Welcome back, you guys! I hope you had a really good weekend and are ready for a new creative week. I certainly am ready, and have a full week lined up to share with you. So grab a cuppa somethin' and let's start with a motivational layout today in my art journal.
So for this layout I was inspired by a bicycle screenprint I had by Heidi Swapp, although I ended up using one from Prima instead. Now, I admit that I spent entirely too much time on this layout and added entirely too many layers and elements and inks.......but all that really matters is that I had fun and I experimented lots.
I started out with another favorite textured paper from Papyrus and some dictionary pages from an old French/English dictionary I had on hand. Those were adhered and then heavily gessoed.
I also added some washi tape and some ribbons from Webster's Pages, and then again heavily gessoed. I also laid down some mesh fabric that is May Arts, also just had on hand. You could use burlap or canvas instead and that would lend a similar effect.
I also used two stencils with modeling paste: the wood grain is from Mod Podge and the butterflies are Heidi Swapp. The modeling paste has been colored with Heidi Swapp mists - however they are watery so those butterflies may crack in time? No worries, it will only add to their charm.
So while I was working on this layout (for days and days!) I really wanted something upbeat and happy. The irony is that bicycles don't really make me all that happy - many years ago I had a bad accident and, while I recovered and got back on my bike very soon after, today 30 years later they scare me. So maybe this layout is actually a dream for me - to associate a bike with joy. I don't know. But regardless, my thoughts today are: even if the journey brings some tears and sadness along the way (and it will), look for the things that do bring joy.
Maybe bikes don't bring you joy, but the mediums I used sure did. And that, in the end, is the whole point. Happy creating! See you tomorrow with Project Life, and don't forget to stop by my give-away before Friday for the drawing!
