Project Life 2016 Week 1 Part 2!

Hi guys, welcome back for two more layouts that I completed for Week 1 in my Project Life album. For all of week 1 I used the Project Life App and Project 52 cards to create my layouts, and then embellished on top. Here is my process video for creating the last two layouts.

Ok, so here is the layout as I created it within the PL App:

This was not long after Christmas Day, and we took down the tree and ornaments pretty quickly. The ornaments were collected on the table, and I just loved the photos I took. Here is the layout completed.

On top of the large photo I added a simple title and some glitter numbers.

Underneath the main photo I typed my journal card into the app, and added a simple tag on top of the diagonal stripes.

For the title card all I did was add the year. Easy Peasy.

For the filler cards, again, I simply added one tiny glitter asterisk. I love that these cards are done the way they are, but embellish so easily if you wish.

I had planned a second photo on the bottom space, but decided to add a star transparency instead. I am so happy I made that decision. Those stars look so crisp on top of the white cardstock. Gorgeous.

That was literally just exactly how exciting our New Years was. On New Year's Day, several of the kids wanted to see Star Wars, and Natalie did not. So the story of that day was what each group did.

Here is the layout as I designed it in the PL App.

Very cute, no? Sure, you could call that layout done, but it needs some dimension and it needs a little more to really tell the story of our day. So here is what I did with it.

There is so much to love about this layout, I am not sure where to start. I added a simple banner onto the photo of the movie-goers.

I wanted to highlight the two different events of the day, so I created two title cards. The title that is next to this photo tells what they did.

And then your eye is led back across the page to the other title card, which tells what we did.

I took our photo real quick in the car before we left Panera, and Natalie was trying to hide from the camera. She thought she had outsmarted me....Ha.

The movie tickets are inside the little glassine envelope on the middle journal card. Here is one more look at both of these layouts inside the album.

While those two layouts are quite fun to see now, the process for creating them was actually quite an event. As you know, my camera took an unfortunate fall to the floor early in the month of December, and I had been using manual focus since then because the auto focus function was damaged. Well, right in the middle of recording the process for the second layout, the camera decided to stop holding any focus at all, and it was laid to rest. If you watched the video, I actually included a note about that.

I went through a bit of a struggle, losing that camera. It was tough to make the decision, but we did go ahead and purchase a new camera body and now that it has arrived, I am delighted. I went back and forth whether I should even include the second layout in this post, because the video quality on that layout is not great at all.

And then I decided to post it. I decided to finish up that process video and show it, missing chunk and blurry video and all. I decided to embrace the imperfections, because I want us all to feel like we can be imperfect here. There is nothing that really actually is perfect, so why am I stressing out over being perfect? And how often do we not do something because we know we can't be perfect?

I recall several years ago, Wilna Furstenberg created a process video in which she dumped an entire bottle of paint on her whole layout. She made that big giant mess into an excellent design element, and for weeks afterwards everyone wanted to dump paint on their layouts so they could look like Wilna's layout. What if we viewed our own mistakes and imperfections the same way?

I am trying to let go of that immobility that I get when I don't feel perfect enough. In the end, I am so very happy that I have two layouts to show you and a process video and I hope you are inspired by both of them. I also hope that if you were holding off doing something because you thought you weren't good enough, let go of that and go do what you want to do. Embrace the imperfections and allow yourself to make mistakes, blur the video a bit, mess something up. Spill the paint, my friends. I'll see you soon, now go, do and create!

Project Life is the creative brainchild of Becky Higgins and is a memory keeping system of using pocket pages to document your memories by the week. Project Life App is a digital app on the iPhone that lets you design your Project Life pages on the go. Project 52 are digital cards available through the app itself. The embellishments I have used to layer on top of these layouts are part of the Gossamer Blue Main Kit and Life Pages Kit that I receive each month through their subscription service. These kits were sent to me in December and I have been trying to use them up in anticipation of the January kit arrival.
