TBT Project Life 2014 Week 25 | The Painting Project!!!!

Hi guys! Today I am showing you a layout from my 2014 Project Life and I am beginning to document the painting portion of the project that we were responsible for. This will be broken up into two sections, so here is today's part:

Here is a look at the entire layout before embellishing and journaling. I created the entire right hand side in Photoshop because it is a part of the written story that I am trying to include.

Here is the layout completed:

So for the painting project, it turned out to be done in three phases: the first phase consisted of filling and sanding the trim work and painting the first coat of paint. So this side of the layout shows how the house looked at the end of that phase.

All of the products I chose are from Ali Edwards' Story kits, primarily the Tough and Wild ones. I began with this marketing card.

The photos I chose for this layout came directly unedited from my phone. I admit that there were very few photos taken during this portion of the project - it was simply a matter of focus and survival, and I did not want my DSLR to become damaged in the process. So these photos were downloaded from my phone and then I printed them on 4x6 photo paper, shrunk to size. Then they are layered onto some patterned cards from Ali's Story kits.

I have to admit it was fascinating to scrapbook this after the fact (two years afterwards) using the Story kits that are designed to affirm and empower. I found myself using sentiments that reflected the difficulty of the project, but also contained phrases and words that I would tell myself back then to help make it through.

I love these Story kits for that reason - both the ability to encapsulate the experience as it was, and to tell ourselves the things we needed to hear at the time. I loved the idea of using the Wild kit because I think the fact that we took this on was pretty Wild. This card makes the perfect background for the title card.

None of my dates in this portion of the album are precise, that much I will admit. Since there aren't many photos, there isn't any metadata to access to tell me what was going on day to day. That really is ok. Include the photos you have, tell the stories you remember.

I particularly love the Life in Progress stamp for this layout! Over the last few weeks you have seen our house built in place from the ground up. And now the progress continues due to our own blood, sweat, and tears! I want to remember this! I want to open this album the day we move out (with my nails clawing the driveway because I won't go easily!) and remember what these days felt like (hot, exhausting, overwhelming), what it smelled like (sweat, paint, wood, caulk), and what it felt like when it was done (superheroes!)

The right hand side begins to tell the story. I have four pages total that look similar to this, and so next week I will read them all to you. Since there were so few photos, I decided my format would be to add one or two photos per page. When I wrote the stories all down, it sort of came to me in some sort of order, but there were smaller micro stories that needed to be included. The small print sections are the main story, the larger print sections are the micro stories.

Stay tuned next week for the reading of the story and the remaining layouts that help tell them. See you tomorrow for some Traveler's Notebook goodness!
